Neil The Seal Magnet

This Neil The Seal Magnet is made from Blackwood Veneer, and hand painted orange ply.

Neil The Seal is a 5 year old Southern Elephant Seal who comes to Hobart, Tasmania each year to rest. Given his size (over 1,000kg!) and mischievous behaviour authorities started putting traffic cones around him to keep people away. Neil showed exactly what he thought of the cones when he started attacking and eating them! That then made him even more famous around the globe with funny photos of Neil The Seal popping up on social media every year.

He's caused damage to more than just traffic cones though with fences, poles, even cars no match for Neil! At only 5 years of age he is set to get much bigger, and could grow to up to 5 tonnes! 

If you see Neil, please do your part in keeping him safe and stay at least 20m away, 50m if you have a dog with you, and don't do anything to try and get his attention. Although he may look cute and lazy, he is a large wild animal and can cause significant damage. The last thing we want is for anything bad to happen to Neil because of human interference.
